Marshall joins Aston Villa

Aston Villa have signed goalkeeper Andy Marshall on a one-year deal.

The 34-year-old former England U-21 international was a free agent having completed his contract with Coca-Cola Championship side Coventry City.

Marshall, who has also played for Ipswich and Millwall, will provide back-up to first choice Brad Friedel and current number two Brad Guzan.

Genuinely don't see the point in this, Friedel is as consistent and reliable as anybody in the league, and on the rare occassions when he isn't playing Guzan is a more than capable deputy.

Marshall will play a couple of meaningless cup games, might has well have given some experience to some academy keeper rather than a 34 year old reserve player.;
